ReceiptIQ ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the receipt scanning and grocery intelligence features:
- Receipt images — photos you take or select from your gallery to scan
- Receipt data — store name, date, items, and amounts extracted from scanned receipts
- App preferences — settings such as theme and currency stored locally on your device
We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information. No account is required to use ReceiptIQ.
2. Camera Permission
ReceiptIQ requests access to your device camera solely to photograph receipts for scanning. Camera access is only activated when you choose to scan a receipt. We do not access your camera at any other time, and we do not store raw photos on our servers.
3. How Receipt Images Are Processed
When you scan a receipt, the image is sent securely to our backend server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude AI for text extraction and data parsing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing: anthropic.com/privacy.
Receipt images are transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection and are not stored on our servers after processing. The extracted receipt data (store, items, totals) is returned to your device and stored locally in the app.
4. Data Storage
All your receipt history, pantry data, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not maintain a user database or cloud storage of your personal receipt information. If you uninstall the app, all locally stored data is deleted.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. The only third-party service involved in app operation is:
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — receipt image analysis only, subject to their privacy policy
6. Data Security
All communication between the app and our backend server uses HTTPS encryption. Your API requests are authenticated with a secure token. We do not log or retain receipt images or personal data on our servers.
7. Children's Privacy
ReceiptIQ is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can:
- Delete individual receipts within the app at any time
- Uninstall the app to remove all stored data
- Revoke camera permission at any time in your device settings
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
